PLAYER

Name: Dee
Age: 28
Contact: [plurk.com profile] dactylgirl
Other Characters: Maxwell Trevean
Interests: Climbin' in yer tombs, snatchin' yer relics up. I'm really looking for a balance of everything. Action is great, but I'm looking forward to just being able to thread with neat characters and have them interact as people too. An over-arching plot and goal, but the freedom to let the characters to be "real" people at the same time.

Canon World

The world setting for Tomb Raider is for all intents and purposes a real world equivalent, circa 2015. The history is the same, and technology is on pace. Lara's life, and the events she lives through, are unique and not the experience of everyone.

History

A link to Lara's wikia page.

*Born February 14th, 1992 to Lord Richard and Lady Amelia Croft
*Lara's mother disappears early in her childhood and her father begins his obsessive research into immortality
*Lord Richard is discredited and disgraced by the greater archeologically community for his wild theories
*Somewhere around her 12th - 13th birthday, Lara finds her father dead in his study from an apparent self-inflected gunshot wound
*At 21 Lara sets off on her first, real expedition to find the lost island of Yamatai, the kingdom of the ancient Queen Himiko
*The events of Tomb Raider
-Lara's research vessel, the Endurance, sinks off the coast of island that turns out to be Yamatai
-Yamatai is inhabited by a cult of survivors (from numerous ship and plane crashes over the decades) called the Solarii
-The Solarii believe that the violent storms surrounding the island and preventing them from leaving are supernatural, controlled by the angry spirit of the Queen Himiko; they kidnap Lara's friend Sam, in the hopes that if the Queen's spirit can be transferred to Sam's body, the Queen will be pacified
-Eventually it's revealed that the Solarii are correct, and the ritual to transfer her into Sam's body is begun, but Lara kills the leader of the Solarii, and stops the ritual
*After escaping the island, Lara realizes her father was right, and takes up his research both in an effort to find answers
*The events of Rise of the Tomb Raider
-Lara follows her father's research to the legend of the Deathless Prophet, and the Divine Source - an artifact that is said to grant immortality
-The research leads Lara first to Syria, to the tomb of the Prophet, but she finds that the tomb is empty: no body, no artifact; she does however find Trinity - a mysterious group determined to get their hands on the Divine Source first, whatever the cost
-A clue in the tomb leads Lara and her friend Jonah to Siberia; where while climbing a mountain, they are separated by a landslide
-Alone, Lara encounters more Trinity soldiers, and discovers they have taken a man prisoner that may have answers regarding the location of the Divine Source
-Lara is taken prisoner, and discovers that someone she trusted (her father's girlfriend) has been in league with Trinity all along
-Lara escapes from Trinity's prison along with the native man, named Jacob
-Jacob reveals that his people have been living, hidden, protecting the Divine Source for generations
-Lara still wants to find it, but agrees to help Jacob and his people fight Trinity
-It's revealed that Jacob is actually the Deathless Prophet, thousands of years old, incapable of dying; he tells Lara how to find the Divine Source
-Lara fights to get to the Divine source and then destroys it

(Note: For the sake of ease, I have decided to sidestep the plot of the comics and novel for this app as they have conflicting timelines and information. If another Tomb Raider player applies and wants to include those, I am happy to work with them then.)

Personality

The first thing one will probably notice about Lara, is the beauty. She’s young and vibrant, long and lean. Fit. She has an elegant face, with a full mouth, dark eyes, and long lovely hair (which is usually pulled back into a convenient ponytail).

Take a little time however, look a little longer, and it quickly becomes apparent that there’s more to her than her beauty. There are scars, criss-crossing her body. And there, in her whiskey colored eyes, is a fire. A fierce determination. A strength that goes beyond merely physical.

She is a woman who has seen things. Done things. And she will do them again, if she must.

She is generally a polite and pleasant person, and when she becomes close with someone, she is fiercely loyal and will go above and beyond for them. From traveling to the ends of the Earth, to putting her own life on the line. Not that getting that close is necessarily an easy thing to do…

Lara has always been far more likely to be in with her books and her maps than she is to be out on the town, meeting guys or making friends. Even a few years ago, that was because she was buried in her studies, grounded in her desire to become an archaeologist and make her first successful expedition. After Yamatai, Lara would say that continues to be because of her research – her need for answers; but, however she may avoid it, it’s also because of her guilt, and the still lingering trauma she suffered and survived on the island, including her distrust of what people will think and say about her, as she was quickly labeled as “another crazy Croft” following her return from the island. As well as certain level of distrust in general, following how her best friend Sam no longer wanted to see her after Yamatai, and the revelation that her mother figure, Ana, was in league her enemies all along.

As strong and capable as she is, Lara has her low points, and she is driven by a need for proof. Proof of her own strength. Her own ability, whether it’s physical (making that jump, making that shot), intellectual (solving that puzzle, reading that map correctly), or emotional (making up her lack of faith in her father, giving meaning to the deaths of her friends, stopping Trinity).

She wants, overall, to do the right thing, and she endeavors to do, exhausting all other options before making those hardest of choices. She doesn’t like killing and tries to avoid it, but if she must (usually when it comes down to her life or theirs), she will pick herself back up and keep moving because she knows that sometimes that's just the way it has to be done.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Born to an affluent family, Lara was afforded with the best education and took to her studies very well. From an early age she took gymnastics, and as a result she is very acrobatic and has a great deal of balance and poise. She's a proficient climber, and has had weapons training from early in her life - mainly with bow and firearms, work with a knife is very basic. No practical knowledge handling swords, or handling a sword and shield combo.

She has some experience with first-aid, though how much of it will translate to Thedas will be something for her to discover. She's also incredibly resourceful, using salvage items from the land to improve her clothes and weapons, as well as to feed and heal herself (though, again, she'll have to learn which animals and plants are good for these things in Thedas). Lastly, she can pick simple locks.

While her intelligence and drive are great strengths, they can also be great weaknesses, namely in that they can make Lara quite tunnel-visioned, to the point of obsession and to the detriment of relationships with others.

Arrival Inventory

*A set of climbing axes
*A compound bow
*A pump-action shotgun
*A heavy pistol
*A military assault rifle
*Holsters/straps for the various firearms
*A leather-thong necklace, with a small jade-charm
*Several small leather pouches of ammunition
*A leather quiver, arrows
*Combat knife
*Half a dozen gold, Byzantine coins
*A set of armor (I'm hoping I can say she found this during RoTR, and was wearing it when she came through the rift; it doesn't need the "bonus" it comes with in RoTR, I just like how it looks.)
*A set of street clothes (Worn underneath the armor)

I expect none of the firearms or related paraphernalia to arrive with her, and I'm more than okay with changing the compound bow to a recurve if necessary as she does use both in the game. I just thought the compound (and the armor) would be just different enough to make it fun to talk about with PC characters.

'Human'ization

Fit

Firstly, Lara simply being what she is - an explorer and adventurer - should make her trip to Thedas an interesting one. She can explore not just a different culture, but a different world. One where the magic and supernatural elements she's just beginning to discover in her world are fully open and embraced (to an extent). Where a great number of the population even fits into that definition themselves!

Along with that, as different as Thedas and Lara's world are - there are some similarities and her piecing those together could really be fun as well. (Some of the languages being similar, the Christianity allegory, etc.)

More personally, Lara has been seeking more of the supernatural in her world - seeking answers for the things she's seen. Seeking proof. Being surrounded by it, and the juxtaposition between how rare and "unnatural" it is her in world as opposed to Thedas - where it's not rare, but still seen as unnatural in some circles - could be very fulfilling for her. Perhaps it might help settle some her anxiety and distress. It should also give her some interesting view points against native Thedosians.

And of course she’ll be understand why the Inquisition wants to stop Corypheus – once she learns of him and his tactics – and will certainly agree to help. Especially if the Inquisition will in turn help her get back home (where she has own battle against evil, would be immortal gods).
